Political Logic*
We listen to politicians babble all the time. If we agree with them, they're doing something right, but it may not be the logic behind their arguments. It could just be them babbling... I would argue we don't really listen or follow politicians because of their aptitude for innovative ideas, or world changing beliefs, it's more of a love-hate relationship for their rhetoric.
So...let's look at some examples, shall we?
Examples: (note: this is formal logic, which does not take into account the nuances of language, rhetoric, and logical fallacies, as opposed to informal logic, which does)
Premise:
"I'm tough on the issues."
Reasoning:
issue == terrorism terrorism == harm (to people, etc.) harm == bad "I'm tough on the bad."
Okay, so that one checks out. Let's look at another.
Same Premise, different Reasoning:
issue == jobs jobs == employment (earning a living) employment == good "Im tough on the good."
Well, that one doesn't really seem to check out, so let's have another go at it:
issue == unemployment (¬ jobs) unemployment == bad "I'm tough on the bad."
Yeah, that sounds a lot better, and it makes sense, too. What are some examples of false logic that you have heard in politics lately?
*Oxymoron?
